This material although originally from India comes from Hawaii where it grows abundantly often producing trees with 3 to 4 foot diameter trunks.
Mango is a relatively soft hardwood, moderately heavy, with specific gravity of 0.57. The color is lustrous blond to honey brown frequently showing mottled color variation acquired during drying.
Some trees may have a dark brown heartwood called "chocolate heart".
Tonally Mango has a bright, punctual voice, strong like Koa but with more sustain.
